Origin: Karatu Estate, Karatu District, Arusha Region, Tanzania

We only really buy Tanzanian coffee once a year at best. The cup profile generally falls somewhere between Rwandan, Kenyan, and Guatemalan coffees: bright, but balanced acidity, good sweetness, and articulate flavor notes (but not necessarily mind-blowing complexity). This lot from the award-winning Karatu Estate has really made us wonder what we’ve been missing: juicy red plum, dried strawberries, and orange zest stood out on the cupping table, with some lingering brown sugar sweetness.
